Written by Allie Philpin | 8 December 2017

Cyber Management Alliance headed to the city of Brussels in Belgium on 13th November 2017 to host their inaugural European Wisdom of Crowds event. Amar Singh and the CMA team welcomed cyber and information security, data privacy and GDPR professionals across Europe to collaborate, create and share their insights into ‘Architecting the GDPR-Ready Enterprise – The European Addendum’.

Wisdom of Crowds is an exciting and innovative concept from cyber security professionals, Cyber Management Alliance. Their exclusive series of events offer cyber security professionals the unique opportunity to join together to collaborate, create and distribute their valuable knowledge and experience with like-minded colleagues on the topics of cyber security, data privacy, regulatory compliance and other security-related issues. The events are based on the principle that the ‘wisdom of many surpasses the knowledge of a single or few’; and our inaugural live event was no exception!

“The very concept of the Wisdom of Crowds is that the Wisdom of Crowds far exceeds the experience of one or a few.” Amar Singh, Cyber Management Alliance

Hosted in the superb Hotel Pullman Brussels Centre Midi, the Wisdom of Crowds attendees focused on discussion and collaboration surrounding the forthcoming European GDPR, looking at ways to facilitate and enable businesses and organisations across Europe to be GDPR-ready in order to comply with the new regulation.

Led by globally-recognised cyber security thought leader and sought-after keynote speaker, Amar Singh, teams of attendees came together to discuss and share their valuable knowledge, creating informative mind maps and useful checklists for the data privacy and cyber security roles within businesses and organisations, through interactive and thought-provoking sessions.

The event’s sponsors – E2E Assure, Jirasek Security, Shieldox, Vigitrust, Human Firewall, NetConsent and GRC-ISMS Plus – showcased their products and services via their stands at the Wisdom of Crowds exhibition which was running alongside the event, which proved to be highly successful and generated great interest for sponsors and attendees alike.

Rob Demain from E2E Assure, delivered an insightful keynote presentation – ‘GDPR and Breach Notification: Effective Strategies for Detecting and Responding to Cyber Attacks’ – which was followed by a presentation from Rowenna Fielding, Data Protection Lead at Protecture Ltd, who took us through the GDPR Myths and Mysteries, helping attendees get a better understanding of the biggest GDPR challenges facing organisations, as well as countering the spread of misinformation and incorrect assumptions out there.

“Great session; really enjoyed it.” Nanda Ramakrishnan, Colruyt Group

Peter Wright, Chair Technology and Law Reference Group at the Law Society UK as well as Managing Director of DigitalLaw UK, gave us an insight into dealing with cross-border transfers of personal data to places outside of the EU, providing examples of modern contract clauses, binding corporate rules, the EU/US Privacy Shield, and how Brexit might impact UK/EU data transfers.

Leading cyber and information security, data privacy and GDPR professionals from WIPRO, Think Security, Federal Judicial Police, BAE Systems Applied Intelligence, Deltus, Rule 11, Digital Europe, Ipswitch, Police CR, European Data Protection Supervisor and other organisations attended Cyber Management Alliance’s inaugural European live Wisdom of Crowds event and were delighted with the event’s outcome.

“Very interesting – really appreciate this!” Filip Lampaert, BAE Systems Applied Intelligence
“Good mix-up of expert opinion and commercial value. Enjoyed some very articulate speakers.” Giselle Van Tornout, Tilburg University
“Great event; really well put together and run; good agenda and interesting people.” Stewart Benger, E2E Assure
“Brainstorming in a closed relevant group always helps to uncover certain aspects which we think trivial but turns out huge when we dig deeper.” Krishna Pandey, Hortonworks
“A great opportunity of having different workgroups working independently on creating a mind map for the question: ‘How to create a privacy culture for Security by Design?’ The outcome of each was fabulous and I’m already looking forward to seeing the combine final outcome in the new version of the Wisdom of Crowds brochure!” Marcus Burkert, InfoGuard AG
“Connecting with great minds and meeting true gems of the cyber security industry. Thank you for this event and I encourage all to attend future Wisdom of Crowds events – some serious WOW factor guaranteed!” Viktoria Mfaume, I-DATA CONSULT
